Regarding China vs. US + allies GDP, what do you think of the argument that the relevant point of comparison should be weighted toward manufacturing capability? On that point, China stacks up pretty well to US + EU + Japan + SK + Taiwan etc.
It depends in what sense you mean. Any potential war around Taiwan would be a Naval and AirPower affair, which is much more in the domain of high end standoff capabilities. In which case our outsized economic and tech base gives us a better platform to leverage our industry.
It's not that China is helpless, or has nothing in their favor, but moreso that China in the aggregate can't really compete with the United States and our allies in terms of production of high end systems and munitions.
